FALL WARDROBE PLANNING AND NORDSTROM SALE PICKS

Even though we’re in the middle of summer and it’s hard to imagine cooler weather, I’m starting to think ahead to Fall. I blame it on rainy days and retailers. Right about now is when Fall items are starting to hit stores. From past experience, (both my own and as a personal stylist shopping for clients) I’ve learned that it’s important to get in the game early. That way you have your pick of sizing, colors and styles. It’s also good to have a strategy for seasonal wardrobe planning so I’m sharing mine below.

My Fall shopping includes transitional pieces like this bomber jacket that can work in dry or wet weather as well as more classic Fall staples. I bought this cute sweater with pretty crossover detailing in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale yesterday. The sale opened yesterday to Nordstrom cardholders and goes wide to the public starting July 22. This is a nice sale because it’s on brand new product and the sale is only temporary. As with any good sale, things tend to fly off the shelf, so if you like something don’t wait to buy.

TIPS FOR SEASONAL WARDROBE PLANNING:

TIP 1: Make a list of season essentials. I happen to really like making lists so I don’t mind this aspect of the process but if list-making isn’t your favorite thing to do, feel free to use mine below.

TIP 2: I recommend pacing yourself when shopping for your seasonal wardrobe so figure out roughly what your budget is going to be for the season before you start shopping. I usually spend about half my seasonal budget ahead of season and reserve the other half for around September, when more new pieces roll out. By then you have your staples in hand and can fill in the holes and have some fun.

TIP 3: Search any ongoing sales to see if you can grab anything you need from there, like the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

TIP 4: Stay true to your personal style and invest more heavily in pieces that you love and that will resist trends.

SWEATERS

Crossover Sweater – I just bought this yesterday in grey and love it. I’m thinking about grabbing the burgundy color as well.

HANDBAGS

Everyday saddlebag

Cross-body bag

Camel tote

Weekender – My brown weekender which I used so much all spring is also included in the anniversary sale – you can see it styled in this post. I’ve been using not only for weekend trips but also just around town when I need to drag a lot of stuff with me. The cross-body strap is a life-saver.

JACKETS

Bomber jacket – so useful for transitional weather.

Blush trench – love this coat and am debating buying it even though I already have a blush trench!

SUNGLASSES

My long-time favorite oversized sunnies are finally back! I bought mine 6 years ago and they’re still going strong. You can see me in them in this post and many others if you dig around in the archives. They’re the epitome of understated glam. I bought them for almost $400 and the current sale price is only around $280 – that’s an a really good deal. Note that you don’t see the price until you add it to your cart.
