WORK STYLE: A LITTLE BLACK DRESS IN EYELET

For all of summer’s stunning brights, pretty pastels and beautiful prints, a simple black dress is still a must-have in any summer wardrobe. I don’t generally wear a lot of black but every season I’m seduced by at least one black day dress that I end up wearing over and over again. Last summer it was a cotton sleeveless black tank dress from Gap – very similar to this one here. And this season it’s this drawstring black eyelet number that I’ve already worn twice in one week. If you ever feel like you have “nothing to wear” you need this dress!

This dress is from Target’s very popular Who What Wear collection from which I’ve bought several pieces over the last few months. I found a really pretty boho/floral spaghetti strap maxi dress there about a month ago that’s been amazing for really hot days. There’s also a super cute lace top that would be perfect for dressing up a pencil skirt for the office. I have this crew-neck number that’s sure to pop up on the blog at some point.

Eyelet is all the rage right now, making this dress the perfect pick for the season. And the price tag under $40!) doesn’t hurt either. The way I wore it here transitions easily between work and weekend. I like that the mandarin collar, button details and cap sleeves make the dress very office appropriate. At the same time the drawstring waist is a more laid-back touch making it easy to wear this dress casually. The eyelet makes it perfect for any social event too. With block heels and a structured bag this dress is ready to go for work. It’s also a great blank canvas for all of summer’s colorful accessories, like my red bag. Adding a floral scarf and bright sandals would be another fun look. This is also a dress I can see myself throwing on on a Sunday morning for a coffee run because it would help balance out messy hair and bleary eyes – the latter are sadly very much a part of my signature look.

Speaking of Sundays, the weekend’s right around the corner! And speaking of messy hair, I have a few things on my agenda for the weekend, one of which includes finding a good hair salon. Wish me luck, it hasn’t been easy. All I want is a weekday morning appointment and am having the hardest time getting a convenient appointment time. I asked one salon if a 9 a.m appointment was possible and they told me they open at 11:00 a.m. Hmm.

This floral dress in cream with red blooms is so perfect for anything from wine-tasting to brunch to a summer wedding. I haven’t tried it on yet so I can’t speak to fit but at 50% off it makes sense to try it on at least. Another drool-worthy option is this gorgeous print with a halter-neck which has been hugely popular with bloggers and at 50% off is really a steal. And then there’s this super chic romper, which if you like rompers, you should definitely grab.
