WORK STYLE: DOUBLE DOT DRESS AND TRENCH

Work Style - Double Dot Dress

If you’re familiar with my blog you know that I usually have to get dressed as if I’m in a race. It feels like what I imagine a Formula One driver feels like in the pit. So, an A-line dress that you just pull on (and can be worn from work to weekend) is heaven. This little polka dot dress is super cute, has split sides and is conveniently a little longer in the back than the front. It also has a hidden zipper front – that’ll save you a minute in fumbling with buttons in the morning. Hey, every second counts!

DRESS: ANN TAYLOR (on major SALE now). Also like this and this Ann Taylor dotted wrap dress| TRENCH: J.CREW | BELT: old, similar HERE | BAG: old, similar HERE or splurge HERE | SHOES: ANN TAYLOR and last seen HERE | CUFF: BANANA REPUBLIC | SUNGLASSES: STELLA MCCARTNEY, also love these in the other color for summer, Havana Brown
I also like the classic navy color which goes so well with everything! I can see styling this dress with pink or mint accents for another take on it. Or if you like flats you can also achieve a completely different, totally cool, look by pairing this dress with a utility jacket and your favorite Adidas Superstar, Converse, Vans or whichever brand of fashion sneakers you favor. I have trouble pulling off this styling variation off because of my problem with most flats (I’m flat-footed which makes wearing flats difficult) but I adore the look.
The dress comes with a belt in the same fabric as the dress, which I swapped out for this patent leather skinny belt from J. Crew (bought a while ago and they don’t seem to offer a comparable one at the moment). The nice thing about this dress is that you could pick any color belt and it would look great.
My block-heel sandals are amazing for spring and summer in comfort as well as styling versatility. I love the rich dark brown and the soft leather. These are available online only and for under $140, a total steal. The heel height is a little over 3″ but it feels more like 2.5″ because of the block heel and padded foot-bed.
I don’t think I’ve ever shown this classic trench on the blog but I wear it a LOT. I’m always cold, which breeds a special appreciation for good outer layers. This classic trench is really the best one out there in the under $300 price point. The quality and details are impeccable and the fabric walks that fine line between looking crisp and being comfortable. The material isn’t too thick so it works really well if you’re looking for structure that won’t add bulk. It’s also a great choice regardless of your wardrobe color preferences. If you like neutrals, you’ll love this coat. If like me you tend to choose bright colors and graphic prints then this coat serves as a perfect counter-point to the rest of your outfit.
I threw on my new Stella sunnies which I’ve been wearing pretty much non-stop since I got them. It’s a great size for smaller faces, giving you a bit of an over-sized look but not too much. With its square shape it’s a classic neutral style that works with everything. Like any girl I love having different styles and colors of sunglasses but it’s so nice to have that one pair that you can wear anywhere. These fit better on my face than some of the current popular favorites like the Karen Walker Super Duper shades, which I like the look of but found to be way too big for my face.
I’ve linked a few other finds below that replicate this look. Thanks for stopping by!
