COLOR COORDINATED: A PEPLUM TOP AND CIRCLE SKIRT

Peplum blouse and full circle skirt

I think everyone knows that I’m obsessed with full or circle skirts. Here I am in yet another one but it is the season for it! This is the second time I’ve posted this black midi-skirt to the blog – it works with so many different outfits. I wore it here a week or so ago with a pastel pink trench and it’s great for creating an elegant silhouette. For under $50 this is an exceptional quality skirt in a very nice mid-weight material. The weight and length work really well for transitioning to Spring when you’re ready to ditch your full-body armor but the air is still cold enough that it’s nice to have some coverage. This is especially true when you’re sitting on a roof-top deck in Boston’s Back Bay on a windy day with windchill creating a nice 35-degree feel!

This skirt is simple so it begs to be styled with fun pieces and this sporty color-blocked peplum top fits the bill. I love this top. The vivid blue is a nice color statement for Spring and the black/white make it so easy to style. Another reason I like it is the cut. If you’re an hour-glass or pear-shape, peplum is your best friend. It nips in the waist and the flare balances out your figure. Fabulous visual trickery.

If you’re considering this top, I’m wearing a size 2 for reference and I found the fit to be just right all over, even at the waist which is the area I need to get taken in with some pieces. Another plus is that the top is lined, which is unusual for a top priced around $35. It also has a well-finished concealed side-zip that works smoothly. I had to mention that because I’ve run across so many peplum tops where the zipper gets stuck at the waist-line – there’s nothing more annoying. The top features a cut-out back which I unfortunately missed taking a picture of but is shown in the product link. The cut-out is only in the upper back so bra straps showing aren’t an issue.

I’ve linked a few other pretty peplum tops below that are perfect accents to any neutral skirts or pants. Sometimes all you need is a fresh top to breathe new life into old staples that don’t get a lot of play anymore.

The only other thing this look needed to complete it was a hat and a pair of classic white pumps. These white pumps are on repeat as well – styled here for work. They’re as comfortable as you can expect from a 4-inch heel. I bought size 5.5 and would say they run true to size. And the best part is that they’re substantially less expensive than other white pumps of similar quality. They were sold out in all the smaller sizes for a while but are now re-stocked in all sizes (probably not for long though) and linked above! They come in 7 colors and next to the white, the red suede are my favorite.

A white hat would have been really cool for this outfit but sadly I don’t have one. I’m on the hunt though – I saw one at Target with a fringe but couldn’t decide if I’d be happy with the quality or not so that’s still TBD. Fingers crossed I find one soon because beach weather is coming up and black/white is a favorite beach combo of mine!

Thanks so much for reading and have a great weekend!
