Some days it’s nice to be able to wear jeans to work. Today’s post is about wearing relaxed pieces but putting them together so that the total look is still professional. There are days that you expect to be totally chill at work that turn into major opportunities to advance your career. Has anyone else experienced that last minute invitation to an important meeting on Friday at 6 p.m.? When that happens it’s good to at least look like you’re all business even if your head’s already in weekend mode.

In situations like that, you feel much more prepared when your attire is on point even though you’re
sporting your favorite pair of jeans. This look is so simple (verging on boring even) but I think the graphic black & white stripes plus belted soft blazer combo makes it interesting. And the white pumps help too.

I’ve been gravitating a lot towards vertical stripes. Two reasons I love black and white vertical stripes are that they’re easy to style, plus they add a little impact to a look. Aside from the print, this particular shirt is one of my new favorite basics because the cut is perfect for petites, the material is fluid, and it can be styled for both work and casual occasions (half tucked into ripped cropped jeans would be such a cute weekend look!)

If I’m wearing jeans to work I usually add another layer that can give the outfit some structure. Blazers are a no-brainer and for this look, I wanted to stay simple and just go with a black one. We all have blazers in our closet but we tend to wear them either open or buttoned up. Belting the blazer is just a slightly more interesting take and lets you nip in your waist more and create a feminine silhouette. I like this black slouchy blazer versus others for warmer weather because the material is very light, which makes it so belt-friendly,  and also because it’s petite sized with sleeves that push up easily.

When you’re petite, pushing up your sleeves on your arm is like second nature. The idea is that showing some skin prevents those of us of diminutive stature from being overwhelmed by our clothes. While this is definitely one of those rules that’s meant to be broken (like when your top has statement sleeves), more often than not pushing up sleeves is more flattering to petites.

These white pumps have been worn to death in the short time I’ve had them. I had a different pair before that I literally wore out – the soles were starting to disintegrate after non-stop wear. I wore these in my last post for a feminine rainy day look, and as you can see, they work for office wear as well. If I had to only own one pair of pumps (I hope that never happens!), a white pair would probably be what I’d choose.

Hope everyone’s ready for a great weekend. Thanks so much for reading and see you next week!
