POOL STYLE: NEW HAMPSHIRE GETAWAY PART 1

Pool Style
This past weekend we headed to the New Hampshire White Mountains and Bretton Woods for a quick weekend getaway. We had an unexpected heat wave – the temps were a boiling 90 degrees so being near the water was kind of key. I like sitting by the pool way more than actually going in so a cute pool cover-up is an essential. I love this one because it looks like a dress and it’s cute enough and long enough that you could easily wear it to the pool bar without feeling out of place. It’s also currently on sale.

It was a three day trip and I inadvertently got really minimal with my packing.  I only took what you see me wearing here and a polka dot maxi dress that travels really well – no wrinkles even if you ball it up and stuff it in your weekender! I packed everything into my cognac weekender bag which I’ve had for over a year and reach for way too often. I tend to be pretty rough with my luggage so I like that this one is under $100 and still looks chic. It also holds up really well to being thrown around – it still looks almost new and I’ve used it a million times.

Another summer essential is of course a straw hat. I bought this one recently because of the black band and trim details. It’s a chic accent to anything black and also pairs well with color.  Another plus is the size of the hat – it actually fits my small head. And the brim isn’t too wide so it’s great for both pool side and just around town (or country as the case may be). It’s now on sale for around $20.

For footwear, I mostly lived in these inexpensive faux suede neutral slides. They also come in three other colors. They have the tiniest little heel so it makes walking more comfortable for someone like myself who generally doesn’t do well in totally flat shoes. I also packed my fringe earrings with has been on major repeat as you’ve probably seen. You can see them styled in this post with a different colored outfit. It gives major vacay vibes whatever you wear it with and is under $15 so it’s a no-brainer for me.

If you’re in New England and looking for a quick family-friendly getaway, I highly recommend visiting the White Mountains and Bretton Woods. Both are between 2-3 hours from Boston so it’s very manageable with kids. We started our weekend at the White Mountain hotel (pictured here) – a solid choice for an inexpensive base to explore New Hampshire from. One pointer if you’re visiting NH in the summer – do not forget your bug spray! There are bugs everywhere, I mean everywhere!

If you prefer luxury, which I always do (!) head to the Mount Washington hotel and resort, which is probably my favorite hotel in the area. Unfortunately we didn’t take any pictures there because we decided to unplug a little and left the camera behind – sorry! The Mount Washington resort exudes old world charm. You’re surrounded by the mountains and trees, the customer service is excellent, and the views are amazing. We had lunch at Stickneys where you  can get a table on the patio which is literally right on the mountain-side. So pretty and relaxing. It’s already really expansive so its like its own little ecosystem! There’s a gorgeous indoor pool which is perfect for off-season visits. There’s also a cool little arcade, and it’s own post office – in case you need to post any letters during vacay. But seriously, I like the idea of having a post office onsite at your hotel – makes me feel like I have everything I could possibly need all in one place. It’s like a little Las Vegas in the mountains minus the gambling.

Thanks for reading and happy almost summer! xo

PS: I’ve linked a few pool slides and sandals in the scroll bar below that are the cutest!
