I wear a lot of midi skirts as you guys will know if you’ve been to my blog before. Sometimes I like to style them in a classic feminine way but sometimes I’m in the mood to mix it up. Mixing styles creates less predictable looks and is an opportunity to put together outfits that are uniquely you.

Sometimes when putting together an outfit I have a hero piece, the piece that will be the center of attention, that everything else is built around. In this case, it was this marigold or taxi cab yellow pleated skirt. This color is so stand out and pleats give it a ton of movement. I’ve linked two other similar skirts for you since mine is sold out online.

I don’t think I’ve owned anything in this shade before. My first thought was to wear it with this cute lemon embellished tee. Spring/Summer are the definitely the time to wear fruit-themed anything and while pineapples seem to taken the forefront this year, lemons are always a classic. If you want to see a yellow/navy combination involving lemons (and more pleats!) you can check out this post from last year.

I ended up passing on the lemons for this time (though that is definitely going to happen another day) and went with an edgier take: silk cami and military twill vest. This camo vest has so much styling versatility and is a great staple for this transitional weather. You can wear it with jeans and a white tee for a really chic effortless look. I bought the vest in XS (24 inch waist) and with the inner drawstring it’s really waist defining. If your shape is a pear or hour glass, this is a really good thing!

My black silk cami is old and such a wardrobe workhorse. It’s so simple but provides a luxurious base layer for so many styles and outfits. I love this tucked into fuller skirts (clearly!) or to wear with jeans or high-waisted pants. I also really like it with shorts and a blazer.

For footwear I’m really into flatforms right now (since last year actually) so I was tempted to go with these chunky flatforms that I just bought. However, I’ve been dying to wear my black suede slides and love how the simplicity of these is a perfect compliment to the skirt.

These slides are going to be my go-to for running out the door this season. The shoe is so well-made and comfortable. The suede is really luxe and of course you have to love the criss-cross design. I bought the black because well, they’re black – they go with everything! I am so tempted to buy these in the navy heeled version but am really trying to hold off since I also got the suede mules in red/orange. Both pairs are currently 40% off with code GETDRESSED so…sigh! So many shoe decisions to make. The struggle is real!

As for my bag, if you read last week’s post, you can see I’m stuck on it. I’m wearing it on repeat big time. It really is the perfect summer bag, as long as you don’t have too much stuff to carry. Luckily for those of you who are getting tired of seeing this bag, not only on me but on Instagram in general, I’m moving on to some new bags soon. New natural fiber bags to be exact. If you’re a fan of straw bags like me or like sustainable fashion, I did a round up of some of my current favorites (most are under $100) in a recent post. If you haven’t grabbed yourself a straw bag yet, jump on it – such a pretty accessory and so affordable.
