For the last few weeks it’s been all about soft knits for me and luckily I’ve been finding a ton that are both cute and affordable. If you’re a fan of skirts and dresses, nothing beats the slouchy knit plus long skirt/dress combo. It’s quick to throw on, warm and super comfortable. If you’re more a jeans type, just swap out the skirt with jeans and you have just as chic and easy of an outfit. I included 2 simple styling tips below that you can use to style your fall knits perfectly.

I love the layering opportunities an oversize sweater gives you. Give me all the neutral, solid, non-itchy knits for this coming Winter! I couldn’t find this particular one online (boo) but if you check out your local Forever 21 you might see it there. I did find a really similar one in a pretty grey online that I linked in the outfit details. A neutral solid sweater goes with anything an is perfect for showing little pops of color, like my red plaid button-down (layered under the sweater here). This marled boxy turtleneck in mauve/ivory is another soft one that doesn’t irritate my skin. I’m a creature of comfort and honestly, a non-itchy sweater that drapes well can be very hard to come by so I’m happy to bring some itch-free finds to you today.

With a slouchy knit, particularly if you’re petite (short!) like me, fit and drape are of the utmost importance. Style Tip 1: Since there’s no waist definition with this style, the shoulders have to fit perfectly. I also look for knits that can be tucked in a little so that you play with the way the sweater drapes. In this outfit I tucked in the front left in one spot and let the sweater hang longer in the back. This styling trick lets you control the volume and hem of the sweater to flatter your body type.

Style Tip 2: For a pretty layered look roll up your sweater sleeves a few inches above your wrist so that your bottom layer shows. If you’re wearing a button-down, leave the cuffs unbuttoned and just let the sleeve hang low. This makes your sleeves look almost like bell sleeves but more casual. This trick also has the added benefit of keeping your hands warm:) I usually clutch my sleeves and curl my hands into them if the wind picks up in the Fall.

I’m a total fan of this “dynamic red” plaid button-down. I actually bought it to wear casually closer to Christmas but I’m obsessed with red right now and can’t seem to wait the few weeks till the holidays. Patience has never been my strong suit! This shirt is super soft and under $25 – even less if you buy two. I also like the Woodland Green green print – so perfect for Fall. You can wear these casually with jeans, with a nautical skirt, or even just to lounge around at home.  The material isn’t flannel but has a similar soft warm feel to it – ultra comfortable!

I grabbed this straw tote a couple of weeks ago after eyeing it over the Summer and really like it. It obviously works really well as a Summer tote but I actually love it even more for Fall when the straw and texture of the bag contrasts so well with Fall knits. This tote is a little pricier than what I normally spend on a straw bag but it’s so well made and the design elements are so cool that it was worth the spend. Also love the graphic impact of the black stripes – perfect for accessorizing neutral wardrobes. It has a heavy cotton lining and a drawstring close at the top that keeps your stuff secure – I wasn’t expecting that so it was a nice surprise. It also has media pockets. This is definitely coming with me on my next warm weather vacation on top of using it now.

Next up, my beanie! A black beanie is an absolute must-have for the colder months and this one was a winner for me again because of the non-itchiness and the way it fits my head. It’s also pretty warm. Apparently you lose most of your body heat through your head and extremities so you have to keep that head covered, preferably in style:) This one is perfect for smaller heads – it’s one size fits all and I don’t know about larger heads but it definitely fits smaller ones well. Plus the faux fur pom – how cute is that!

My skirt is old but this one is really similar. For someone who doesn’t wear pants and jeans very often, a black midi skirt in a medium weight is a wardrobe basic. I’ve been wearing this skirt for months – you can see it styled in this post earlier this Spring.

Hope you’re enjoying Fall and if you have any favorite Fall layering tips I’d love to hear them in your comments below! And thanks for stopping by. xo
