The weekend’s finally here! It felt like a long week to me. How is everyone’s Memorial Day weekend planning going? I’m still up in the air as far as plans but as long as it involves sun and fun I’m happy. Apologies that the leading picture in this post is an awkward pose with my handbag strap clearly tangled up between my blouse and vest but these are the realities of a windy spring day!

There are two firsts for me in this post – my first time finding a lace popover that isn’t too boxy and my first time wearing and reviewing Ann Taylor jeans in a “curvy” fit. I was very excited to try the jeans since my curves are simultaneously my greatest asset and the bane of my existence. If you’re interested in Ann Taylor denim, read on for my review.

BLOUSE: FOREVER 21 similar HERE or HERE | JEANS: ANN TAYLOR | VEST: H&M (sold out) similar HERE or HERE | WATCH: CLUSE | SANDALS: BP or similar here: STEVE MADDEN | BAG: BANANA REPUBLIC

I found this blouse at Forever 21 which is a store I have a total love/hate relationship with. It’s hugely hit or miss and something about the lighting (or maybe the dance music) in there makes everything look nicer than it is. Then you get it home, dump out that bright yellow plastic bag and discover all the quality issues. And despite that I still keep going back because once in a while you score big time and come home with something really fashion-forward that only cost you about two cups of coffee. Well this was one of those times.

This top is amazing, the prettiest blush color, with a cropped cut that works so well with high waist bottoms, and also lined in the front, which is crazy good for $22! Unfortunately it’s sold out online but I’ve seen it in a couple of locations in-store so if you like it you may be able to find it in person. If not I’ve linked a few others that are very similar and such a great addition to any spring wardrobe. How cute would these be with high-waisted white shorts! The back isn’t lined which I like, it’s nice to show a little skin in a subtle way.

I layered my taupe-y/blush vest over the blouse for a little warmth and grabbed my light brown Banana Republic accordion handbag for a tone on tone look. This shoulder-bag is made out of nice quality suede and has a sophisticated design. Best of all there’s no Banana Republic logo on it anywhere. I’m not a big fan of elaborately displayed logo unless it’s one of the super designer bags. This one is a good find for under $200 – neutral, versatile and pretty trend-proof. I like that the size is small enough that you can actually carry it as an over-sized clutch (tuck strap in) but is also large enough to fit a good amount of stuff in. It fits my very large sunglasses cases, which is a big plus. I like not having to leave the case at home, which is what I end up doing when I carry a micro-bag.

Now for the jeans. As I mentioned, this was my first time trying Ann Taylor denim. I was lured in by the fact that the jeans were in a petite size, cropped to be ankle length and also for curvy figures. As someone with a pear shape figure I can’t ever pass up trying jeans that claim to accommodate both my curves and short legs. So, fast-forward to the jeans arriving in the mail. The material is really soft and I noticed that it fit really well over my hips and only very slightly large at the waist. The waist probably wouldn’t have been an issue if I had gone with size 0P so no dings on sizing. Overall the fit is very good for someone with a pear-shape. I do have a tiny gripe though and it’s that the material bunched up on my legs a bit as you can see from the pictures. I can’t speak to whether it would do this on everyone so I would recommend trying these jeans out for yourself if you have a curvy shape and need skinny jeans that won’t gape at the waist. For me these will probably go my everyday rotation for casual activities. They’re quite stretchy and the rise is really nice for keeping everything covered if you like shorter tops and don’t want to have any plumber’s crack issues! So there you have it – definitely worth a try if you’re looking for curvy jeans for casual wear but look out for bunching.

Please do share if you had a different experience with these jeans or if you’ve found other curvy jeans you love – I’m always on the lookout for high-quality jeans for women my shape! Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
