Fall is almost here and it always fills me with a sense of excitement and new things to come. Something about that crisp air galvanizes me into action and I’m excited that we’re already getting cooler mornings. Of course I also love Fall fashion and this year I find most of the season’s fashion trends to be right up my alley! Today I wanted to focus on the velvet trend, which will be major this autumn – you may have noticed velvet popping up in stores everywhere. This material immediately says glam so if you’re a fan of luxe you’re as excited as I am about this trend! Today I’m sharing all my current velvet favorites in dresses, tops, bottoms and accessories.

This velvet wrap midi dress is perfect for an evening out. The color really makes it stand out even though the cut is pretty modest and no-frills. The wrap style is so flattering on all figures and it shows off a little leg without being too exposing. It’s also warm! And yes that’s totally a factor I take into consideration for my Fall wardrobe! This dress is also super affordable which is nice because velvet isn’t an inexpensive fabric and many of the comparable velvet wrap dresses are closer to the $500 range.
If you get lucky, you can find something on sale, like this velvet long-sleeved black maxi dress, now under $25. This dress gives you a relaxed fit and yet delivers an effortlessly chic look. I’m thinking this is going to be perfect for those busy days when I have to drop off my pre-schooler and then run immediately into errands. You style this dress seven days to Sunday so it’s a good one for the rotation. Also I’m pretty happy that body suits are now in style again because they make it so much easier to look streamlined. As far as basics go, this crushed velvet body suit is seriously perfect. It’s great for wearing solo with skirts and jeans right now and layered under a knit in the Fall when the temps get chillier.
Fall means sweater weather and I’m seeing some really luscious velvet/velour options to supplement my knits with. This wine colored batwing slouchy turtleneck is seriously awesome with anything from your summer denim skirt to layered over a slip dress for an easy chic layered look.
Speaking of slip dresses, this asymmetrical hem one is SO stunning but sizes are running out fast! I love this blue/almost periwinkle midi dress as well – again, so figure-flattering and the color is unusual for Fall so it stands out.
If you’re looking for a less pricy option, this rose slip dress is a great one to try and at under $40 you can’t go wrong.
For more velvet, check out this post – yes I’ve been wearing velvet every chance I get these last few weeks even though it’s technically summer!

This scalloped velvet pump is absolutely on the top of my shopping list for Fall. The color is so gorgeous and rich and it’ll elevate any outfit.

This pleated lilac midi skirt is so pretty. If you’re a pastel lover you’ll see the appeal right away but even if you don’t generally wear paler colors, this one is a great base to add bright pops of color to. Red is going to be the IT color for Fall and this skirt would go perfectly with an over-sized red sweater for a fashion-forward look.

Another velvet dress I’m eyeing even though it’s similar to the one I’m wearing here, is this navy wrap number. The sleeves are more voluminous and the color is super rich yet subdued at the same time. If you want to try the velvet trend but mustard or gold isn’t your game, this is a great one to grab!

And boots! I’m currently dying over this embroidered pair that look WAY more expensive than they are.

For those of you who made it all the way down to the bottom of the post I wanted to share that I made it into IFB’s 2017 list of top bloggers over 40. The lead image is actually from close to when I started blogging – did any of you read that post? It was about wardrobe basics and I’m almost make-up free in the picture, and to be honest I’m a little horrified that I ever posted it on the blog but there you have it!
PS: If you’re looking for more Fall trends, WhoWhatWear happened to publish their Fall style trends post at the same time as mine and it ties in quite nicely with this post. You can see some of their velvet picks as well!
Anyway, thanks so much for swinging by and reading! xo
