FLORAL COAT AND STRIPES: MIXING PATTERNS
One of my absolute favorite wardrobe items is this jacquard floral coat that I bought about 10 years ago. It’s always in style, always gets compliments and it elevates any outfit. You really can’t ask for more from a piece of clothing. I think a great coat has that power and I never hesitate to invest in a piece like this – one that speaks uniquely to my style and will last decades.
FLORAL COAT: OLD but I love these: MARC JACOBS RETRO, HELENE BERMAN KIMONO COAT, and super-splurge but to absolutely die for, this amazing BURBERRY PRORSUM PATCHWORK PRINT COAT | STRIPED BUTTON-DOWN: similar HERE | PETITE CROPPED JEANS: sold out but similar HERE or HERE | PUMPS: NINE WEST and also love THESE if you’re looking for a lower heel option.
If you’ve been on this blog before you might remember this vertical striped button-down shirt from a business casual look I had on. If you missed it, you can see it here. Needless to say, I love this shirt. It has a relaxed style and a print that makes it appropriate for work or casual outfits. I also love the fit, which for a petite person, is always the game-changer. When I was at the store a few weeks ago they didn’t have a lot of prints but I hope they make more in this same cut because I can live in them! I’m wearing the size 2, which is my usual sizing in H&M tops.
The jeans are also a repeat. I first styled them here for a casual bright spring look and I’m a big fan of this petite cropped pair. I find mom jeans to be very flattering for those with fuller hips or heavier lower body. They’re roomy where you need them to be but not so much that the look is sloppy. Unfortunately this particular pair are now sold out but I’ve linked similar styles above.
I wear this coat over anything and everything so I can’t pretend that this particular pairing was very deliberate. I do tend to mix patterns quite a bit though and find the stripes/floral combination to be the most fool-proof. As long as you ground the outfit with at least one color that runs through (which in this case is black) it usually looks good. If you like mixing patterns please share your favorite mixes in the comments section – I would love to hear.
I thought I’d also add another look with this coat since I wear it so often…
Thanks for reading!
