Last Fall we were looking for castles in New England and found the Crane Mansion, an enormous and beautiful estate that overlooks the Atlantic ocean and sits on acres of rolling green hills as far as the eye can see. We only made it through a small part of the estate last year so we decided to go back. My four year old, who shares my love of castles and expansive open areas, had so much fun exploring. I thought this floral midi dress with blooms in orange, yellow and turquoise set against pink was perfect for this backdrop. If you’re curious about what I wore last Fall (hint, it’s another floral number) you can see it in this post – which outfit do you like better?
This dress is one of my favorites this spring because it easily goes from day to night and can be styled in different ways. For day, mules are often my go to. I considered wearing it to an evening event a couple of nights ago since it’s dressy but not too serious. I would have paired it with strappy heels or a platform sandal and grabbed a little clutch for the night. It’s also backless, which makes it extra appropriate for evening. If you don’t want to skip the bra, I would wear a silky cami under. The dress also has an asymmetric hem, which makes the midi length more interesting. And the mini-ruffles just kill me – love them so much!
Here’s a detail shot of the print. You can see that the colors are so vibrant – perfect for a modern day garden party with a big hat I think. The material is on the thin side though not see-through. I layered a mid-length cami underneath for the slighter cool temps that day. I also belted the dress for extra waist definition though it’s fairly fitted. As far as size, I’m wearing UK size 2. This dress is so flattering to curvy figures – cut close to the body on the top but very forgiving on the bottom.
This is the front of the mansion as you pull up to park. You can see the clouds rolling in but luckily it didn’t rain, and I think the weather forecast must have kept most tourists away because we had the place largely to ourselves!
I’ve had my pink sunglasses for a couple of years now from one of my favorite sunglasses brands. If you like pink and have a smaller face you should definitely consider the Leonard, shown in tortoiseshell at this link. I love that these glasses never fall off my face and that the pink will have staying power through several years.
