READY FOR HOLIDAY PARTIES – FLORAL PARTY SKIRT
And here we are, it’s party time again! I count mid-October as the official start of the holiday season. Halloween is just a few days away and seems to bring just as many adult festivities as it does kid activities. From there, Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away, and then of course Christmas and New Year’s! So for me, October is the official marker of the start of the party season. In previous years I invariably went with dresses for parties of any kind but this year I’m breaking tradition and adding a new player into the mix – a sweeping skirt. I love the idea of a beautiful midi or maxi skirt that can styled easily for office parties (like here with a simple turtleneck) or done up for a more intimate night out with maybe a bustier or lacy camisole and strappy red sandals.
This skirt is one of my favorites for this holiday season and it’s under $30 – how awesome is that (if you order over $55 you can also use code BD40 for an additional 40% off ). The rich colors are perfect for any holiday party and I love the variety of ways you can style it. I don’t know about you but what to wear to my annual office party is always something I mull over quite a bit. This year with dramatic styles and sweeping hemlines dominating the fashion scene, this skirt makes so much sense. This was my first experience with Shein who were kind enough to send me this skirt to try. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, which is definitely as good as you can possibly expect at this price point. I also like the weight of the material – heavy and perfect for the colder months. I can see myself comfortably wearing this on even the coldest winter day (with some tights).
The skirt is unlined but since the material is heavy a liner isn’t at all necessary. The colors also allow for many styling options. I chose to pair it with all black to make the skirt pop but it would also be so cute with a sparkly cardigan or this oversized neutral knit sweater (so soft!) if you wanted to wear this skirt to brunch.
If you like the idea of the black turtleneck, I can’t recommend mine highly enough. The material is so soft and molds to your shape. It’s a winter blend of wool/cashmere blend and adds so much warmth despite how thin it is. I find it perfect to wear alone in the Fall and even more perfect for Winter when you need to layer and you need sleek base pieces. This is easily one of the most-worn items in my closet through Fall and Winter and well worth the buy at around $85.
Red is a cliche for the holidays, yes. But it’s also such a classic and I for one rely on my little red accessories quite heavily each year around the holidays. My red bag was bought earlier this year and unfortunately doesn’t seem to be available online anymore. This little red bag is a close dupe for mine and comes with the chain strap that adds subtle bling to your outfit – under $500. At a higher budget, I also found this Jason Wu bag that has a similar minimalist design and also happens to be on big time sale right now. Mine has been through the paces with me all year, starting all the way at the beginning of the year – you can see it in this post if you’re curious to see it styled in Spring.
My shoes are from a couple of years ago. Black suede pumps never go out of style and are always a great choice to invest in. There are a few beautiful round-toed options new this year. For my money I would go with the Loeffler Randall pair if you’re looking for a little bit of a splurge (the smaller sizes are already selling out but as I post this, most sizes included 6 and up are still available – 5 and 5.5 are sadly out of stock at the moment). For a super splurge I also love the Gianvitto Rossi iteration of these, with the ever so slightly exaggerated block heel. And if you want to bring the budget back down to earth, I like this Nine West pair for a similar look at a fraction of the cost.
