I’m late getting my post up this week – sorry! I had to take some time to do some spring cleaning – both actual spring cleaning of my closet as well as metaphorically speaking. First, my bedroom was becoming a mess with clothes everywhere so I spent some time organizing and now I feel much better. The metaphorical spring cleaning was my return to the gym, which I feel should be accompanied by some fanfare because it’s so hard to do! I finally made it back to the gym after 4 years of not working out – life as a mom can lead to certain things falling by the wayside and for me it’s been fitness. I’ve only done 3 days in the gym so far but now I feel I deserve new workout clothes, wink wink.

Anyway, this outfit is an easy but chic combo for spring. If you want to see a zillion ways to style a maxi dress you’ve come to the right blog – just look through some older posts! This is an easy no-fail style formula – a maxi dress plus utility jacket. In my case, my new slouchy, over-sized summer weight utility jacket. I just got this a few days ago and was pretty excited to find it since it’s under $40 and provides a great counterpoint to all the flowy feminine pieces I like to wear. Read detailed reviews of the jacket and dress below!

I bought this maxi dress because I can’t resist floral prints, it’s petite-friendly (though length needs to be altered a bit), and it’s under $100 – enough said! When I buy dresses I also look for great fit, comfortable fabric (usually that’s something breathable) and cute design elements. This dress has a blouson top which I find very flattering on petite figures. It also has tie shoulders, which means you can adjust the arm holes to some extent and also control where the neckline falls. Very useful features for petites!

I love this hanging double hoop style – pretty and versatile. I had also pulled some dresses from the Nordstrom sale a couple of posts ago. In case you missed it, I’m happy to report that some of them are still on sale and available so check my picks out here if you need some cute dresses that won’t break the bank.

I wear it with everything. Straw bags are all the rage now and it’s getting to hard to find something that not every single blogger owns – like my Ark bag. Not that that stops me from wearing and posting it anyway. But this little basket is still comparatively below the radar. If you’re into sustainable fashion then this basket bag will appeal to you on that front as well – it’s hand-made in Vietnam. Also it’s only $28, boom!

This dress is lined down to the mid-thigh on me. I wish the lining was a tiny bit longer because I don’t like a ton of leg showing through but I was happily surprised to find that the dress wasn’t as sheer as I expected where there’s no lining.

DRESS: DEE ELLY | BAG: REFORMATION | JACKET: FOREVER 21 | BOOTS: old, similar HERE | EARRINGS: CARAAlso a couple of additional details on my utility jacket – warning: you might see a lot more of it in the coming weeks because I love it! It has a hood, as you see in the store photo below. It also has a drawstring waist with cute burnished toggles, not just two shoelaces – not a fan of the shoe lace kind. The sleeves can be rolled up and buttoned to create a different look and last but not least it has giant flap pockets. The material is also really soft and looks much more expensive than it is – I highly recommend this jacket for spring/summer!Anyone have any vacay plans coming up? We’re doing a few New England trips that I’m really looking forward to and will post about! xo
