THE CLASSIC PIECE EVERY WOMAN NEEDS FOR FALL

Fall is in full swing! I just came down with a cold that’s taking forever to kick and missed this week’s blog post. I’ve also been slow this year with building my Fall wardrobe. As you might know about me, I live in dresses and skirts. And I don’t plan to give them up in Fall or Winter. My wardrobe strategy for these two seasons tends to be focused on figuring out how to wear summer pieces and still be warm. But there’s one piece I always get new in the Fall and that’s a great quality wool turtleneck. In previous years I’ve stuck with Club Monaco turtlenecks but this year I ventured out of my routine and grabbed this grey thin-knit merino wool one.

As someone who wears a lot of color and loves bold prints, neutral tops are a must-have and this grey turteneck fits the bill. Speaking of bills, it doesn’t hurt that this is now on sale for only $41 dollars, and right now they’re offering 50% off sale prices, which makes this only around $20 – what! The fit and weight are perfect for Fall worn by itself or layered under your coat in the winter. I always look for thinner pieces since they tend to look more streamlined and can be layered easily. Another reason I wear thinner knits is that they fit better under fitted coats and fitted coats tend to be more flattering to my shape. As far as sizing, I’m wearing the regular XXS (not currently offered in Petite) and found the fit to be perfect. This turtleneck also comes in six other colors! I love the red – so perfect for work holiday parties.

My skirt is unfortunately sold out currently online but I found this gorgeous rust pleated skirt, which is perfect for Fall. This  I’ve never met a pleated skirt I didn’t like and I could probably link 15 that I love so I figured I’d stop at one in this post. ASOS has been such a great place this season to grab pleated skirts in pretty colors. My navy skirt which was so popular had a light blue cousin there that sold out incredibly fast but I found this petite midi with a metallic stripe that’s going to be perfect for the holiday season. As I learned from my blue skirt experience, if you like it grab it now because it won’t be around long.

This season is so much about luxe materials like velvet, jacquard, and of course, fur or in my case faux fur, which is popular every year around now. As we saw in New York Fashion Week, rich and flashy (metallic shoes anyone?) will reign supreme this and next season. I have a faux fur vest that I bought almost 10 years ago at the Grove Michael Kors store and it’s still in vogue. So if you don’t have any faux fur in your wardrobe this might be a good year to add some:) You can wear small amounts of it, like me with my tiny faux fur scarf. As an added bonus, faux fur is really warm, which I never expected it to be when I bought my first piece.
