Earlier this week I wore a black and white look for work with a blazer and pants from Banana Republic. The blazer is so versatile that I wore it a couple of different times over the course of the week. This post is Part 2 – the blazer styled for a dinner or drinks look, worn over this red floral print dress. I love this vivid shade of red – a fiery lipstick red that really stands out. Don’t buy this dress if you don’t want people to notice you!

For me personally, I like a stand-out color (follow me on Instagram if you like color!) I’m not a morning person and a punchy color, along with coffee, helps a little. I read an article recently that listed the best ways to feel awake and invigorated in the morning and the top suggestion was to get outside in the fresh air as soon as you wake up. Wearing a bright color wasn’t one of the methods listed, but I highly recommend it:)

When you want an easy polished look, few thing beat a cute dress with an elastic waist. I mean, all you have to do is pull it over your head and you’re done. I went with a color saturated look with matching red lips and red bag but it would be just as pretty with all black accessories, which we all have. For my daytime look I broke out my camel lace-up sandal/booties to ground the bright reds a little (scroll down to see the dress styled with the blazer for a “grown-up” dinner). Mine are Catherine Catherine Malandrino from Nordstrom Rack for around $50. I couldn’t find the same pair online but did see this cute pair  as well as these awesome espadrille flats that I wish I had seen in store. I would definitely have bought these!

These camel lace-up booties are perfect for the start of the season and they go with everything. Lace-ups were a big trend this summer and the trend continues into Fall. I’m busily gathering camel and brown accessories for my Fall outfits – what are your favorite colors to wear in autumn? I like it all but tend to lean towards oranges and browns.

I love the prim tie-neck of this dress. From my recent buys it seems I’ll buy tie-neck anything. It must come from my love of scarves, or maybe my lack of time to carefully layer necklaces to create an interesting neckline. With a tie-neck dress, you don’t need any accessories at the neck. Perfect solution for lazy or time-pressed people like me. You can also wear the dress with the ties left open and collars flapping down a little if you do want to show off your neckline.

Here’s the dress paired with my blazer plus suede pumps for an easy transition from the office to dinner. I often find myself being too cold in restaurants so I almost never go to dinner (or movie theaters for that matter) without a warm layer with me. In this case, the jacket served both style and functional purposes. Did you see the little patch of grey on the outside of the blazer collar? I love that. You only see it when you pop the collar so I plan to keep it popped a lot:)

I found the fit of this dress to be really flattering, especially to curvy figures. The skirt part glides over the hips and the fabric is swingy but also has some weight. Another big plus for me is that it doesn’t wrinkle easily. I actually wore it here without ironing and it had been sitting in the shopping bag right before I threw it on – that’s low maintenance!

Thanks for stopping by and happy weekend! I’ve linked my look as well as some Fall favorite booties below for you to check out!
