If you’ve been to my blog before you know that I like a lean wardrobe. And a lean wardrobe needs to be made up of versatile pieces that can be styled in different ways. This blazer and my Avery cropped pants are two key pieces that are truly versatile and can be worn together and separately, for work or for play. I wore them here together for a formal suit look but I also wore the blazer over a dress for dinner the other night. With Fall around the corner, a light-weight classic blazer that you can layer under is such a good investment.

Having one classic suit in your wardrobe can be such a time-saver for work dressing even if your office environment isn’t terribly formal. I like the full suit look from time to time – it’s a little different and it makes me feel like I’m ready to tackle anything. Power dressing!

Did you get a peek at that grey lining inside the collar that I mentioned? Love this little detail so much, especially for Fall. It adds such a luxe feeling and it’s perfect for pairing with Fall sweaters.

I started to wear these pieces right away because the light-weight wool is perfect for the office chill but on the walk home, off comes the blazer.

Versatile Separates with Banana Republic

Banana Republic has always been one of my favorite places to shop. Their classic pieces are elegant and timeless so I know I’ll wear them for a long time. And as a petite with a long torso, I wear both regular and petite sized clothing so I really love that at Banana you have both options.
My blazer and pants are very light-weight wool – perfect for Fall and very classic for work. I also love this ruffled lapel blazer, also in light wool with a single button versus the two on mine. My blazer has a soft pin-striped lining that seems to pair well with anything you wear underneath it. Love when you catch a glimpse of the lining inside. Makes you really want to roll up your sleeves at work:)
As I mentioned above, this blazer also has the cutest stand up collar with grey felt on the back (collar inner lining isn’t shown on the BR website). It adds a really nice detail to this blazer and makes it look more expensive than it is. How cute would this be over a grey sweater for Fall, or a simple grey tee for now!

Given we’re still getting some very hot days in Boston, I wore my blazer over a light-weight silky blouse. I wanted a neutral look for this outfit so I stuck with classic dark grey and white pin-stripes. I really love this blouse! It’s total perfection. To start it’s super soft and the drape is perfect. Then the details – the chic stand-up ruffled collar as well as ruffles down the button-line! The ruffles make this classic piece so much fun and make this blouse play well out of the office. I’m definitely going to be wearing this blouse paired with jeans and loafers on the weekend or for casual Friday at the office. The cocoon color is still available in the smaller sizes in both Petite and Regular sizing. There’s also an “preppy navy” color which I love but the smaller sizes have sold out in Petites.

I was trolling the sale and a view things jumped out at me. The Riley fit bow top is beyond adorable (can’t resist giant bows) and is included in the 50% promotion. It also comes in white and both are less than $50 each. I’d jump on it right away if you like it because in my experience blouses with bows seldom stay in stock for long, especially at this price.
