EASY OUTFIT FORMULA FOR THE HOLIDAYS
With everything else going on during the holidays, the last thing anyone wants to worry about is how to put together a great holiday outfit. Even if you’re staying home, which I am, I’m still dressing with the holidays in mind. I have a super easy holiday outfit formula I wanted to share with you guys. This outfit works particularly well for hour-glass or pear shaped women, where your top might be smaller than your bottom half. Check it out and let me know what you think! Do you have any outfit formulas?
Here are the steps to create a super flattering yet simple holiday outfit:
STEP 1 | PICK YOUR TOP
Grab a streamlined turtleneck in a neutral color. For the holidays, black or cream are good options and are easy to come by. Metallics like gold and silver are also excellent choices but a bit harder to find. It’s important for this combo that the top not too voluminous. Stay sleek!
STEP 2 | PICK YOUR SKIRT
On to the bottom now. As I mentioned, I love a midi or maxi skirt for optimal fit and the most flattering profile. The length of a midi or maxi gives the outfit some flair, defines your waist, and also skims over the heaviest part of your figure. This is a super flattering silhouette – it’s like magic.
When choosing the skirt, look for a print that’s appropriate for the holidays. Plaid, like my skirt here, is obviously a common choice. Tartan is another great print that I truly love and wish I could wear all year around. You may have seen this tartan skirt in a post from last week.
In terms of material, there are a lot of options, which I know can make it harder to choose. Silky fabrics like this gold skirt, or anything with a little shine is always good. So pick fabrics like silk, taffeta and satin. Tulle is also a fabulous option for those who like all things girly and whimsical. And then of course there’s lace, which is classically feminine and romantic.
STEP 3 |ADD SHOES
Black sock boots with a heel can work from day to night. A delicate sandal is another great party pick if you’re thinking about what shoes to wear to a party, and a great pair of platform sandals in black will allow you to wear black tights and get a leg lengthening look. Win win in the winter.
STEP 4 | ADD A BAG
What are the best bag options for a holiday outfit? A belt bag like mine is a little more suited to day than it is to night so you’ll want to pick the type of bag by the time of day and the venue of the party. I love a belt bag for adding the right amount of edgy to an otherwise classically feminine outfit. It would be great for a gallery setting or any day time event. For something more formal and evening though, a little clutch is the way to go. I like this heart clutch for a holiday party bag.
STEP 4 | ADD SOME BLING/JEWELRY
I clearly didn’t add any bling here but I would if I were going to a party. A pair of hanging chandelier earrings are a great choice to up the shine factor, but if you’re in an understated mood you can’t go wrong with pearl earrings and I love this Leila Sadoughi pair with the larger pearl on the back.
Well, there you go – a little holiday magic via a simple holiday outfit formula. Hope you have a fabulous week and are on target with your gift shopping! PS: By the way, one of the two unbranded heart bags is about $160 and the other is under $15. Can you guess which is which? Comment below to let me know your guess!
